Can't we (they) compile directly for OS X as I see this as an impediment for casual users of such OSS efforts. Particularly so for the user experience that is Macintosh.

The latest release is a Cocoa app, doesn't use X11, but is PowerPC only.
The installation involves downloading and manually unzipping and dropping a number of libraries. No problem for a technical user but not quite what Mac Graphic artists are used to.

Once installed it's actually very good, hardly ugly.
