I find it odd that you and Greg feel that backup and restore of a new
programme is so complex that Dr's will have to spend more money on Tech
support. I use BP. Backup is a breeze. Restore is a Breeze - onto
different machines that is. I regularly restore my backup at home (to make
sure it works and of course it is a requirement of good IT practice). When
I go away I restore it onto my laptop so I can "play" - again a breeze.
Every GP I know using BP finds back up & resore a very simple process.
Converting MD2 to BP a breeze. No tech support needed to test it first.
Setting up BP after conversion is not rocket science. All the GP's I know
using BP are calling their own Tech support, less as program doesn't cause
crashes - thus the saving is fantastic. So with BP the days of easy
technology are continuing in GP-land
But I suppose the new programme you are recommending / using is not BP.
Cedric,
Great ad for BP.
No I won't be promoting either BP or MD3 to GPs. Nor any of the other
packages like Genie, Practix, Zedmed, Medtech or Profile.
The real question is what will most of your much-less technically-savvy
colleagues, who are the majority of GPs out there, decide to do, given
that they are subject to free-market forces and advertising campaigns.
Or will many bail out because they perceive that it's all gotten too
hard and/or expensive?
The issues down the track for Divisions are, if the GP IT market
splinters across 5-6 different products how do we organise ourselves to
meet the training needs of members, most of whom possess far fewer
computer skills than the participants in this list, and the inevitable
phone calls when they get into trouble?
This, of course is a major part of keeping them in the GP-IT game, which
is what some Divisions are still interested in.
