A cross post for anyone with an interest in Clinical Decision Support
Languages. GELLO is an ANSI standard Language, derived from OCL (Part of
UML 2.0) and designed specifically for decision support.

INTRODUCTION MESSAGE
GELLO DISCUSSION GROUP
----------------------------
The GELLO Discussion Group was created as a shared communication
vehicle between researchers and healthcare practitioners interested
in GELLO stardard expression language as means for representing/encoding
computerized clinical guidelines particularly, and clinical knowledge
in general to incorporate in your systems.
The GELLO Discussion Group seeks to provide a constructive dialogue about
GELLO latest developments, e.g. implementations, specifications/features,
applications, and to provide the opportunity for sharing all
kinds of useful, GELLO-related information.
GELLO Standard Expression Language
---------------------------------------
Based on the Object Constraint Language (OCL), GELLO expression language
has been
designed to meet the challenges of clinical knowledge in the context of
heterogeneous
clinical environments. Most important among these challenges is a
platform independent
knowledge representation that can be used and shared by any clinical
application. GELLO
follows the same conventions as OCL in relationship with the UML
metamodel. In other
words, every GELLO expression is written in the context of a specific type.
GELLO expressions can be ‘translated’ to other languages, e.g. SQL, Java
by means of a
compiler producing executable code compatible with institution-based
applications. While at
the same time, GELLO expressions can be shared among institutions with
different systems
without the need of rewriting.
For clinical applications that depend on cross-platform,
cross-application share of
knowledge, GELLO expression language solution overcomes the inherent
challenges of
traditional encoding and sharing of knowledge across heterogeneous
clinical environments.
By eliminating the need of ad hoc encoding to satisfy specific
requirements, easing the
sharing of clinical knowledge and reducing the risk of inconsistencies
and errors of “same
knowledge source –multiple encodings”, GELLO is challenging the way
healthcare entities
communicate and share information.
THE GELLO DISCUSSION GROUP
--------------------------------
GELLO Discussion Group seeks to facilitate the development of a network
of members
with shared interests and skills in the field of Medical Informatics.
Its purpose
is to promote a constructive dialogue about GELLO, both theory and
practice, and to provide the opportunity for sharing all kinds of
useful, GELLO-related information.
GELLO Discussion Group is an electronic mail group which can serve as
communication
channel for researchers and healthcare practitioners in the field. It can
serve as virtual environment for 'meeting' other people who are
working on GELLO.
The principle of GELLO Discussion Group is simple: each message posted
by a member
is automatically distributed to the mail addresses of all other GELLO
Discussion Group
members. Types of messages that can be sent are:
* dicussions/announcements on
- specifications/features
- implementations
- applications of GELLO
* announcements (call for papers, conferences, tools, symposia etc.)
* questions and answers (requests for information or references,
debates on specific topics)
* discussions of new software tools, and implementations
* etc.
