I think the maximum indoor power levels for WiFi are only 100 mW or so.
Modern mobile phones can emit over 1 watt by comparison, and similar
power levels even on standby when far from a base station (albeit not
continuously).

I sleep with mine, powered up and transmitting, under my pillow.

Why not just use longer CAT5 cable between it and your PC and mount it
high up on a wall. That what I did in my study at home and it improved
the signal strength around the house no end. Ah, it is a ADSL modem as
well... can't the ADSL cable be extended?

I think you really need a complete Faraday cage
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage ) - yes, Horst, I know
Faraday cages are primarily for *electrical* fields but they also work
for electromagnetic fields as well.

Oh, speaking of Horst, I passed through Dorrigo while on holidays. Very
nice part of the world, the Waterfall Way is a spectacular piece of
road, and I enjoyed munching lunch with the hippies (ah, those were the
days...) at the Kombu organic food shop in Bellingen just down the road.
