At risk of being now being know as a Jewish Puerto Rican. What the boffins doing some of these studies seemed to miss were the clear and measurable benefits in electronic records. Measuring only clinical forget a doctor is more than a simple diagnostic and prescribing tool
1-Hands up any paper based practice who has not lost or misplaced whole files. Computer melt downs are manageable if backed up properly 2-Scanned or better still electronic messaging saves both doctors and staff considerable time. I estimate about 25K in staff savings per years over paper. 3-Electonic records can be backed up daily and be restored and accessed remotely- Try that with few tonnes of paper records 4-Summarys- Most electronic systems can/Will have significant improvements to current summaries. Every paper records brought to my practice has been nothing short of disgraceful and complete waste of time. Medicare smart card from paper- LOL 5- Most people can type at 50 plus words a minute and have spell/grammar checkers and auto inserted texts. Reading many/most of the paper based records sent to us is hard or impossible and often pointless!!! 6-Voice records to manual or automatic transcription is already happening. Not in hand written notes for every good reasons I wonder if the authors have had fun telling banks to go back to passbooks and thousands of branches. As a data analyst the truth must be told. These guys may also be behind the argument that the worlds is round or creationist beat Mr Darwin theory of evolution. Regards James- is James an old Jewish - Puerto Rican name??? Talking about Darwin- It was the most Jewish one I could find! Living on Zionist Time 1999 Darwin Awards Winner Confirmed True by Darwin 5 September 1999, Jerusalem In most parts of the world, the switch away from Daylight Saving Time proceeds smoothly. But the time change raised havoc with Palestinian terrorists this year. Israel insisted on a premature switch from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time to accommodate a week of pre-sunrise prayers. Palestinians refused to live on "Zionist Time." Two weeks of scheduling havoc ensued. Nobody knew the "correct" time. At precisely 5:30pm on Sunday, two coordinated car bombs exploded in different cities, killing three terrorists who were transporting the bombs. It was initially believed that the devices had been detonated prematurely by klutzy amateurs. A closer look revealed the truth behind the explosions. The bombs had been prepared in a Palestine-controlled area, and set to detonate on Daylight Saving Time. But the confused drivers had already switched to Standard Time. When they picked up the bombs, they neglected to ask whose watch was used to set the timing mechanism. As a result, the cars were still en-route when the explosives detonated, delivering the terrorists to their untimely demises. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of David Guest Sent: Wednesday, 11 July 2007 12:06 PM To: General Practice Computing Group Talk Subject: Re: [GPCG_TALK] More Grist To the Mill David More wrote: > *Methods * We performed a retrospective, cross-sectional analysis of > visits in the 2003 and 2004 National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey. > We examined EHR use throughout the United States and the association > of EHR use with 17 ambulatory quality indicators. I remember hearing an American urologist from Florida who stated that a cross sectional analysis showed you were born Puerto Rican and died Jewish.
