I was alerted to this press release from the Federal Communications
Minister yesterday.

Clever Networks transforms chronic disease management
The Minister for Communications,
Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan today
announced the eighth preferred applicant under the first round of the
Clever Networks program. Precedence Health Care's Chronic
Disease Management Network, CDM-Net: A Broadband Health Network for
Transforming Chronic Disease Management, will use broadband to
transform the management of chronic disease thanks to $2 million in
funding by the Australian Government. CDM-Net will create a
network of health services for monitoring and supporting care
management. Chronic illness requires close monitoring and ongoing
management across an entire team of care professionals, Senator
Coonan said.
I would be very interested to know
whether and how Precedence Healthcare intends to link to or integrate
with GPs' clinical software.
David More's blog reveals that Precedence Healthcare appears to have
only a Website under construction. The only reference that I have found
to Precedence is by the Australian Centre for Health Research, which
appears to be an organisation of private health insurers:
http://www.achr.com.au/
On the ACHR Website, a paper of April 2007 "e-health and the
transformation of healthcare", written by Prof. Michael Georgeff refers
to Precedence on page 14. Is Precedence funded and run by a
consortium of private health insurers?
The Monash Uni Website lists Prof. Georgeff as Director, e-Health,
Monash Institute of Health Services Research, Faculty of Medicine,
Nursing and Health Sciences. On the page for the Monash Institute of
Health Services Research:
http://www.mihsr.monash.org/about/staff.html
other Centres and Units list their staff down to the level of research
officers and project officers, while Prof. Georgeff is the only member
of staff listed for the e-Health Research Unit.
