I presume you are talking about Linux software RAID on external JOBD array? My personal experience is that it sucks really really badly. Put another way what where fairly low lever operator tasks such as replacing a failed hard disk, now become the domain of guru level Linux admins. Then there are all the issues with having large numbers of drives hanging of the back of a Linux box. A Dell PowerVault MD3200/MD3260 with expansion enclosures as required is not a lot more expensive and a *LOT* less of a headache. JAB. -- Jonathan A.
