The support matrix is here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/storage-scale?topic=STXKQY/gpfsclustersfaq.html#fsi 5.1.7 indeed does not support RHEL 8.8, and 5.1.8 only supports up to 4.18.0-477.13.1.el8_8.
