I may be off somewhat, but my recollection is that support for 
metadata-blocksize != (other)blocksize came after POOLs. 

And the doc for mmcrfs seems to indicate that if you want to specify  a 
metadata-blocksize != blocksize, then system pool must be comprised of all 
metadataonly disks.
Which is consistent with my understanding that all the disks in a given 
pool have equal blocksize. 

So my point was, if you want to segregate data from metadata, think only 
about pools first. Then worry about blocksizes and metadataonly disks.
