How would that happen? The ID may not be random, but it is a long string
string of digits:

[root@n2 gpfs-git]# mmlscluster

GPFS cluster information
========================
  GPFS cluster name:         madagascar.frozen
  GPFS cluster id:           7399668614468035547

ANYHOW, I think you can fix your problem, by using:

mmdelnode to retire nodes from the over-subscribed cluster.

mmcrcluster to create a new cluster

mmaddnode to join now unaffiliated nodes to the new cluster.
