Hi Bill,
In Australia, I've been lobbying IBM to do something locally, after the
great UG meeting at SC15 in Austin. It is looking like they might tack
something onto the annual tech symposium they have here - no time frame yet but
August has been when it happened for the last couple of years. At that event we
should be able to gauge interest on whether we can form a local UG. The
advantage of the timing is that a lot of experts will be in the country for the
Tech Symposium. They are also talking about another local HPC focused event in
the same time frame. My guess is it may well be all bundled together.

Here's hoping it comes off. It might give some of you an excuse to come to
Australia! Seriously, I am jealous of the events I see happening in the UK.

Cheers,

Hi Bill,

As a user community, we organise events in the UK and USA, we post them on the
mailing list and the group website - www.spectrumscale.org.

There are a few types of events, meet the devs, which are typically a small
group of customers, an integrator or two, and a few developers. We also do
@conference events, for example at Super Computing (USA), Computing Insights
UK, ibm are also trying to get a meeting running at ISC as well. We then have
the larger annual events, for example in the UK we have a meeting in May. These
are typically larger meetings with IBM speakers, customer talks and partner
talks. Finally there are events organsied/advertised with other groups, for
example SPXXL, where in the UK last year we ran with SPXXL's meeting. This is
also happening in NYC in a few weeks.

In the UK we have a much smaller geographic problem than the USA, we've also
been going a lot longer - the USA side chapter only launched September last
year, and Kristy and Bob are building the activity over there.

I think if there was interest in a an informal (e.g.) state meeting that people
wanted to coordinate with Kristy/Bob, then we could advertise to the list. Of
course all of those involved in organising from the user side of things have
real jobs as well and getting big meetings up and running takes quite a lot of
work (agendas, speakers, venues, lunches, registration...)

Where do other users in this group meet to discuss GPFS advancements and share
experiences/how-tos? How often? I am speaking of conferences, etc. Thank you,
