2.5.22 now has the M5A listed too, but I think it might not help to just have 
it there.

The logfile you attached seems to report that it has no downloadable images at 
the time it was taken:

        497.226515 camera_wait_for_event       (2): DEBUG== 0xd215 after 
capture = 0

So currently I think the camera is getting confused earlier :/

It is hard to say how to workaround or fix this.
Can you capture a full debuglog, perhaps without data to keep it smaller?

        gphoto2 --capture-tethered        --debug-loglevel=debug --debug 
--debug-logfile=tether.log
