HI,

The 350D is very old camera from 2005, using the old "normal" mode driver.

I am not very familar with the capture/preview support in this mode,

It looks like the preview mode the driver offers is basically 
- take picture
- transfering the full imge or just its thubmnail for preview

You might be able to control this with the "capturesizeclass" config option.

I would not get up hope of this working well due to the age of the camera.
