Gphoto2 does not support the Sony Alpha7 camera
because it cannot access the SD card.

All looks good from your traces, and it should work.
Did you try
gphoto2 --capture-image-and-download
and/or
gphoto2 --capture-preview
?
Note that the SD card cannot be accessed in PC Control mode.
The default capture will also go via camera SDRAM directly to the computer.
