Summary: option to skip file system sync before transfer
Product: gPodder
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: feature request
Priority: low
Component: Application
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
In the following I will use "transfer" when I mean syncing files to a portable
player and "sync" when I mean the syncing that the sync command line tool does
(that is writing the disk cache).
I often transfer a lot of single podcasts to my player (the new ones). So I
repeat the following cycle several times: I search a new podcast to transfer
(in the meantime my computer does nothing), then I click "transfer", then the
file is copied and the write cache is flushed (while I do nothing). This is a
very inefficient usage of both the computer's resources and mine.
It would be ideal if the copying could be done in the background (with no
"done" pop-ups either). At least there should be an option not to do an
explicit sync. It's a good choice for new users because they might pull the
plug as soon as gpodder tells them it's done. But I know that the data aren't
written yet. This can be done while I already click my way to the next podcast
though. And I do unmount my player before I cut the connection. So it'd be
great to be able to opt out of the explicit syncing.
