Summary: Status icons are unclear
Product: gPodder
Version: 2.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: feature request
Priority: low
Component: Application
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
When first working with gPodder, it wasn't very obvious to me what they
different status icons meant and also why some lines didn't have any icon at
all.
After playing around with the application some, I found that a star means
"new", and no icon at all means that the file hasn't been downloaded.
To make it more clear what the status of a given podcast episode is, a few
random thoughts:
1. Include icons for all files, even those that aren't downloaded. For episodes
that have not been downloaded, perhaps you could use a grayscale version normal
icon, or have a "download" icon indicating that they could be downloaded.
2. Display informative text when mousing-over the icons. Instead of displaying
a summary of the episode (which is already shown in the next column), perhaps
you could display some help text like "New Podcast (downloaded)", "New Podcast
(available to download)", "Viewed Podcast", etc.
3. What about using a gmail style system for indicating played/not-played
episodes? For example, you could have the titles for new episodes displayed in
bold text, and have the row for the episode in a light color. Played episode
would be in normal text, with a duller background color.
Thanks!
Keith
