What we should have is something like "re-start failed downloads for X times after the rest of the downloads has finished", where X might be something like "3" and be user-configurable (maybe in the advanced settings dialog). Retrying infinitely is probably not a good idea, because it might hammer a server if the error isn't temporary and gPodder is left unattended.
