The main reason I find myself wanting to sort by Status is to find episodes
that I haven't listened to yet. (For instance if I delay listening to an
episode for a week or so, and as a result it gets buried on the list below a
bunch of more recent episodes). So to support that usage, I'd suggest sorting
them in the following order. This is based on the statuses visible to the end
user as icons in the "Status" column:

New (star)
Currently downloading (down-pointing arrow)
Downloaded, never played (note/video icon with a "+")
Downloaded, never played, deletion prevented (note/video icon with a "+" and a
lock)
Downloaded, played (note/video icon)
Downloaded, played, deletion prevented (note/video icon, lock)
Deleted (strike-through icon)
Won't download (no icon in the status column)

This would be more or less based on the chronological order of the statuses in
a typical episode's lifecycle.
