Summary: Welcome Screen: Revisited
Product: gPodder
Version: 2.10
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: feature request
Priority: low
Component: Application

This is a follow up of a previous bug report:
https://bugs.gpodder.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1182
It's a feature request to implement a "welcome screen" or "nothing
pre-selected" for the gPodder interface. The reasons for this are as follow:
1.) Faster start time. A user does not have to wait for a pre-selected
subscription to finish loading before he can go on to other tasks in the
application. This is especially true if he has the "All episodes" view enabled.
2.) Consistency. When the top-most subscription is pre-selected, it is based on
a coincidence; alphabetical order. This can either be someone's favorite
podcast, or a podcast that he rarely updates, all depending on what letter the
subscription begins with.
3.) It allows additional features to be added later in the future that are
based on welcome screens: introductions, common tasks, "tip of the day", etc.
These would be unobtrusive and would not require the user to wait for a list to
finish loading.
I usually insert an unfunny joke or witty comment at this point, but I've got
nothing. Sorry. Nothing. No unfunny wittiness today.
