I.e., I could not connect in USB mode as mass memory was in use, and could not move gPodder directory from the command line as filesystem was in read only mode. So reboot of the device made all the difference and gPodder started without any difficulties. Not sure why it was on read only mode, but maybe gPodder can take that into account and give a notice of that problem or something.
