Bug #: 1528
Summary: Youtube Videos Download in SD
Classification: Unclassified
Product: gPodder
Version: 3.0.1
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: low
Component: Application
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]

I have used Miro as my software of choice for downloading video podcasts for a
long time. Although, the software is becoming bloated and buggy. I found
gpodder and was very happy and thought I had found the perfect solution. Sadly,
I've found a flaw in the program that makes it impossible for me to use.
I use a lot of Youtube user profiles as my video podcasts. I want those videos
to always be downloaded at 1080p or 720p. Sadly, with gpodder 3.0.1 on Windows,
I am finding that it always downloads the very small SD version.
I did some digging around and did find the youtube.py file. Inside, I found a
line that states:
def get_real_download_url(url, preferred_fmt_id=none):
I don't really know a lot about how this coding works, but I played around with
changing none to 37, which defines 1080p. I changed all of the
"preferred_fmt_id=" lines in the document to 37 and still the SD version was
downloaded.
Perhaps this is a bug with Youtube? Any solutions would be GREATLY appreciated.
