--- Comment #6 from Marc D. <[email protected]> 2012-05-02 21:40:43 BST --- It's ok. I wish I could help, I'm not a coder myself, but perhaps folks at PortableApps could let a hand. I finally tested the latest version on another computer, downloading from the channels worked perfectly. I fixed as well the PyGtk installation issue in my local computer by reinstalling Internet Explorer. Some questions regarding 3.1, I noticed downloads as well as settings are saved by default to My Documents, is it possible to change it? Didn't find the advanced setting. --- On a side note, I do believe that modular applications or plugin based should be the standard. In that line portable applications are more "modular" (I know I'm mixing different stuff here). They are only loaded when they are used, similar to plugins in modular/plugin based programs. I undertand for example that by installing all the python dependencies gPodder runs actually faster and updates are smaller, which is from a "local/tactic" point of view excellent. In a more global point of view, if for each application I use I should have to install an equivalent amount of dependencies, the whole system would run slower. Sorry for going off topic (but at some point I always wanted to discuss this ;) Only applications that directly modify the system or are always loaded (I do wonder however if an antivirus software could be more portable in the sense) might in that sense benefit perhaps the overall system performance. As stuff like registry is loaded in the ram. And there are the other benfetis of portable apps, no messing with the system, no installation issues, etc Bottom line, whenever possible I use portable applications. Again sorry for going off-topic just find this stuff interesting. One last disclaimer: I can only think that with little time to spend, is the right thing to do to stop the extra work of re-packaging the dependencies for the portable version. I read the instructions from the link, looks like* there's no technical knowledge required. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.gpodder.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes. _______________________________________________ gPodder-Bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/gpodder-bugs
