Sorry, don't have a clue, as I don't use SMB mounts myself. Googling for SMB
and SQLite (that's what we use for gPodder's database) turns up some
interesting reads, hopefully they can be of help to you (and feel free to
comment here if you find a solution:

I'm closing this as WORKSFORME now. Please feel free to reopen if there is
anything on the gPodder side that we can do to fix this (e.g. if SQLite in the
meantime has got a switch or something that we can set to make it work better
on SMB shares without making the non-SMB experience worse for other users).
