Hey Sam, If it says you're missing the MTP plugins you need to check your distro's repositories for the package that provides mtp.py or whatever it is that mtp requires. I just went through this a couple weeks ago when I got my Sandisk Sansa Fuze and I came to the conclusion that it's better to use it in MSC mode (just appears as a USB drive) and then you just tell gpodder where your Sony mounts to.
