Hmmm.

Looking in the bin directory in msys, there IS an awk and gawk.exe.

So why would scripts complain about not having it? Is there something in the batch file that needs to be set so that GRASS knows that it's there?

I thought that awk is part of the basic msys installation, but if not, you can just install the gawk-3.1.5-MSYS-1.0.11-1.tar.bz2 package which you can find at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2435 .
