I updated from the svn last night and did a make distclean.
When was it backported?

the G_gisinit symbol thing was introduced the other day (backport, to
ensure that compatible GIS libraries are used).
Perhaps you have an old libgis hanging around somewhere?
"make distclean" is needed, too.
