 Tested only in real projections, should most probably use geodesic
 distance for lat/lon locations?

 I'm busy investigating the new patch for its behaviour in depressions,
 just to make sure I do not introduce another bug. Outside depressions it
 looks ok, flow directions are set as expected.

 > FWIW svn (cvs) history back to 1999 (~r1 to r3) can be found in the
 grass54 branch even if the history has been broken in trunk. Also the old
 ViewCVS is AFAIK still up & running (link on trac wiki page).

 The change happened between 1990 (grass32) and 1998 (grass40), I did not
 manage to find that commit :-(
