Hi,

If a georeferencing points file and target are set up it is possible to
use g.transform to say how good the fit is.

I'd like to go one further: I'd like to pass g.transform a handful of x,y
pixels from the the same neighborhood as the GCPs and get an approximate
projected easting and northing back.

If possible at all, I guess we have to write something new for
g.transform; any good ideas on how to do this?

It's a similar problem to the i.vpoints module which will back-project a
vector map from the target location over what you are digitizing without
knowing the source projection terms by name.
