Those hist files only include the operations that are performed inside GRASS. But for instance, MERIS-ENVISAT and other EO data includes GAIN, SCALEFACTOR and other parameter that are relevant for image processing. When I import them to GRASS how can I maintain this information in raster header? Or isn't possible and I only can do that, by inserting text using r.support, when images are already imported to GRASS?

Thank you Hamish

you can add it one line at a time with "r.support history=".
Officially you are limited to 50 lines 80chars long, but maybe you
could push that? You can then view it with r.info.
this is stored in the $MAPSET/hist/$MAPNAME text file.

It is planned that the raster meta-data support will be significantly
upgraded when we cleanup the raster format for grass 7.

I'm importing MODIS datasets (HDF4 format) using Method 1
from http://grass.osgeo.org/wiki/MODIS#Import.
My question is related with the extensive metadata. How can
I kept this metadata associated with file after it's
imported to GRASS? I don't want to loose that precious
information. Is it possible?
