Hi Markus
Ahhh I have installed libgdal1-1.6.0-grass GRASS extension for the GDAL
library from Synaptic Package Manager a few months ago.. And I never got
any problem. What is this for? and what might be the problem from of
activating GRASS in GDAL (I believe haven't done this).

To my knowledge there are no restrictions at all. The minimum is to
just launch
./configure ....
of GDAL with everything set off (but not sure if it quite useful then).
Important:
Be sure to not activate GRASS in GDAL, use the plugin instead:
