It would be useful if users could choose which info (scale, region extent,
grid) should mapinfo display (something like 'scale y/n'). I think the
case you want scale only is quite common.
Another possibilty is to split mapinfo into more objects, so that you
could add information about scale and region extent separately. Now only
one mapinfo can be added.
