Comment:
No reason I know of beyond that's how Radim felt like doing it at the
time. It may have been written early on in GRASS 5.1/5.7, before the
database code was ready.
The wish seems reasonable enough, only comment is that I might throw an
underscore between the words to make the subcommand a bit more readable.
new features -> grass7.
