you'll probably want to look at gpsd.berlios.de for handling the GPS, "apt-get install gpsd" (+ python-gps and gpsd-utils) wrt simple consumable navigation: (as opposed to two-way annotation and feedback during field work & real GIS functions) many moons ago for GRASS 5 I wrote a gps navigation interface which ran in the Xmonitor, http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-grass-general/2005-January/000452.html but it was less than ideal and I abandoned it in favor of the GRASS 6 d.out.gpsdrive module to create backdrop tiles for the www.GpsDrive.de navigation software. (debian package for that is wildly out of date, I've got newer built if wanted-> see the osgeo live dvd 5.0) since I mostly deal with ship navigation now-a-days I mostly am using the r.out.kap_template Addon module to export to self-made nautical charts (in fact habitat model results but the software doesn't know that) for the highly successful www.OpenCPN.org navigation software. (see also the live dvd) viva v.{in|out}.gpsbabel best, Hamish _______________________________________________ grass-dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/grass-dev
