I'm afraid I'm not able to deliver something better before the release, at least not RC2. If a grassdata dir and some location would be automatically created (copied demo location), it should not show anything. Currently it is just using whatever was there which apparently suffers from some mess in (between) grass.py and gis_set.py which is creating some rc file but not good enough and it is not checking if something is actually in the guessed gisdbase.
