#3941: r.external linked rasters do not display

with both 7.6 and 7.8.1 on windows, when linking to a raster using
r.external, the image does not display raster values by default in the
GUI. It is necessary to set the color table before raster values will
display in the Map Display window.
Should there be a required option in r.external to set a color table when
linking?
