not directly, but I see there is a project called "geomview" which can
convert VRML to RenderMan RIB, maybe that gets you closer or you can find
something that converts from RIB to something GDAL knows?
Worse come to worse the VRML format is known and you could write
something to dump the data to an ascii file.
