(mostly anyway)
another thing to note is that the stand-alone installer generally
gives you a msys rxvt terminal + GUI while the OSGeo4W installer
generally gives you a DOS box + GUI.
IIUC the DOS box one should call etc/Init.bat and the msys one
should call etc/Init.sh
