The first step of that is remaking the backend, which is going well, the second step is getting all the frontend stuff in place, part of which is the full GUI, which is keeping pace, but some other things like an enhanced wximgview is still on the wishlist. Give it time and enjoy GRASS 6.4.x for now, or even GRASS 5.4 if you like, they won't expire.
