find the akl_srtm__0.geotiff file in you filesystem (probably in $LOCATION/wms_download/ or so) and look inside it. It probably contains the text of an error message instead of a tiff image. I have not yet figured a reliable cross platform way for it to detect that, unfortunately each wms server handles errors in their own way, so it is not that easy to test for. (sometimes it is even a graphics image which says "error" on the tile) if the "akl" you seek is in the south pacific, I may be able to help with alternate sources of the data.
