I was at the Conservation GIS conference (www.scgis.org) these past days, and gave "a whirlwind tour of open source GIS tools", prominently featuring GDAL, QGIS, PostGIS, and GRASS.
A question came up as to what are the GRASS/hydro equivalents to the USACE's "GEOHMS" , as per: http://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-geohms/ If there's a wiki, RTFM, etc so I could read to formulate a response, that would be great. thanks! Chris
