Agreed.

I don't think Docker is the solution. It does work on OS X, but not "natively". 
And it is non-trivial for a newbie and a much higher barrier of entry than a 
classic VM (VirtualBox).

Wouldn't a CLI-only port for OS X be an option, or a starting place, if the GUI 
is the problem?
