I'm not sure if this applies to your application, but there was
another forum member who was trying to create a parametric system that
would change the circulation system based on the slope of a given
surface... so when the slope got steeper, it would put in stairs...
and as it was more gradual, it would allow it to be a ramp.  Here's a

I'm not sure if this is what your after, but it seemed you were
looking for a system that would use an existing circulation pattern,
and this could give you a start.
