Dear All, I am wondering whether any one has used GRASS to do (semi) real time display GIS maps. The application that I have in mind is to use GRASS generated vector maps in PNG or PDF format as background to overlay place markers and some other quantitative values in multiple layers. This has to be done every 'N' seconds where N is between 1 and 30. Under lying metrics can be produced by either custom software or programs written in language such as R.

When we create vector maps in grass with MYSQL as background database it always creates tables that are permanent. I am wondering whether there is a way to create temporary tables instead. The problem with permanent tables is that Mysql creates corresponding files on the disk where the underlying database tables are stored. This in turn leads to disk fragmentation if we create hundreds of maps a day. Any idea? Thanks, -Karun
