But 1.6.0 has been working fine for me with several software for months now, including GDAL, GRASS and QGIS (until 0.81; in case of 0.9 there are issues related to the new QGIS build system based on cmake, which I haven't figured out how to handle with checkinstall 1.6.0 yet). In case you are using 1.6.1, I recommend downgrading to 1.6.0 available in Edgy repos, eg. here [2]. It should install fine on Feisty. > Checkinstall usually works but sometimes does not...
