There are no such problems in saving as normal ppm or tif.

does it work ok for you if you use GRASS 6.2.2?
I tried by I cannot place a scale in grass 6.2.2 (in fact I almost have
never used that version of grass, so cannot say why) so I cannot answer

All render ok exept legend, anyway legend is added or not
