Is it possible to construct 3D images using GRASS from jpeg sources? CT scans and MRI scans are examples. The images are lossless grayscale jpeg format. (There is a standard called DICOM which would probably be the target of any serious work) Each image represents a "slice" with a known position, resolution and orientation. A number of slices are spaced at a known incremental spacing in the third dimension. It looks like a perfectly good 3D data source to me!
In simple terms, all that needs to be done to get started is to stack the slices into a 3D raster map, so as to be able to render them using NVIZ, for example, or for any other uses that anyone might devise for any other existing GRASS functionality.
