Alex, I know it's an old post but I came across this one in google a little while ago & I thought I'd update since no one else has...
We have been running Graylog2 on AWS for about 2 years now and we have our internal networks connected to our AWS VPC's via VPN. There's also an AMI for AWS which can be spun up in your VPC at: http://www.itoc.com.au/community/oss/amis/graylog2 - the current AMI's listed (at time of writing) are Graylog2's v0.20-rc1 build. Generally you will want to run a m1.small or larger if you plan on pumping more than about 500 req p/sec at the instance. Of course using a larger instance and PIOPS on your EBS volumes should help with performance also if you are planning on pumping a lot of data to the instance.
