I think I figured it out. For one thing, I did have the name of the MongoDB 
database wrong. Somehow I got the wires crossed there. The other thing I 
noticed was that the password_secret item, which is the salt for the 
passwords in the database, did need to be copied from the old server. After 
that, I logged in with a familiar users and all the configuration data was 
there.

Not sure about the node-id. I did change it at one point, but I didn't get 
to the point where I was able to log in and see all the old config until 
after I made the other changes. As a test, I reverted to the original node 
id file (the one that was created when the new appliance was brought up) 
and rebooted. things continued to work.

This seems to be a good start, so thanks for all the help.
