Hi,

did you remove the old, broken index template first? You can check this in 
the output of the following curl command:

curl http://localhost:9200/_template?pretty


Each mapping must include a mapping (or type) name. In the case of Graylog 
it's "message", 
see 
https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/guide/1.x/mapping-intro.html#updating-a-mapping
