could you please elaborate on why using TCP via GELF is a problem in your 
environment?

There are other log shippers like nxlog (see 
https://nxlog.co/docs/nxlog-ce/nxlog-reference-manual.html#xm_gelf) or 
logstash (see 
https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/logstash/current/plugins-outputs-gelf.html) 
which 
support sending log messages via GELF UDP to Graylog.
